The contract of Fort Riley Elementary School first grade teacher Lorrie Mayfield was non-renewed by the Unified School District 475 Board of Education. The decision came after an extended executive session by the board Monday night. After exiting the executive session, the board voted five-two in favor of the non-renewal, with members Rina Neal and Tom Brungardt voting against.
Board President Ferrell Miller said he was unable to comment about why she was non-renewed, because it was a personnel matter.
Mayfield said she has worked in the district for 17 years. According to district officials, she has been a teacher for two years and a classified paraprofessional and a reading tutor for 15 years.
