Nadine Maxine (Altwegg) Riekeman, 86, of Chapman passed away on April 11, 2018 at Chapman Valley Manor.
Nadine was born April 13, 1931 in Chapman to Edward and Bernice (Long) Altwegg. She attended Spring Valley Grade School and Dickinson County Community High School, where she enjoyed being a drum majorette. She graduated with the class of 1949.
Nadine married Dwayne Riekeman on May 14, 1950 at St. John’s Church, Alida. She worked at the Kansas Power and Light Company until her retirement. She loved to cook and bake and was always canning and giving produce from her garden to friends and neighbors.
She enjoyed swimming, bowling, and going to the casino until her health would not allow her to do them anymore. Being involved with the community and church was important to Nadine. She was active in her church with the Ladies AUPW group serving as secretary-treasurer and served on the food committee. When her health was good, she enjoyed going to the nursing home and fixing the resident’s hair. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for over 25 years and a member of the YMCA.
Nadine is survived by her children, Terry Miller of Chapman and Gary Riekeman of rural Abilene. Granddaughters Shannon (Dan) Demory, Platte City, Mo; Lindy Stroda, Kansas City, Mo, Hillary (Matt) Erickson, El Dorado Hills, Calif. Great grandchildren Braedon and Braxton Stroda; Reese, Hudson and Leighton Demory; Lincoln and Kerrington Erickson and her sister, Imogene Caughron.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dwayne, her parents Edward and Bernice Altwegg, grandson Brandon Stroda and son-in-law, Steve Miller.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. at the Alida Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. and burial at St. John Cemetery. Reverend Connie Wooldridge officiating.
