Junction City High School girls swim junior Elisabeth Roe swims during the Manhattan Invitational meet Monday night at Ahearn Natatorium in Manhattan.

MANHATTAN — The Junction City High School girls swim team headed to Manhattan Monday afternoon to compete in an invitational meet at the Ahearn Natatorium. Junction City competed against Manhattan High School, Great Bend High School, and Hays High School.

Junction City placed third in the meet with 97 points.
 
In the 200 yard medley relay event, the team of freshman Karmen Freeman, junior Reece Boland, junior Elisabeth Roe, and senior Paola Noriega placed fourth with a time of 2:19.51. The relay team of freshman Lauren Kim, sophomore Haley Sowder, junior Chris Kim, and senior Courtney Sinklier placed ninth with a time of 2:32.42.
 
Junior Morgan Deering placed sixth in the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 2:40.70. Sophomore Jada Harris placed ninth with a time of 2:49.34. Senior Abby Khoury placed 12th with a time of 2:57.83. Sophomore Kinsey Basher placed 16th with a time of 3:13.83.
 
In the 200 yard individual medley event, Chris Kim placed ninth with a time of 3:12.93. Lauren Kim placed 11th with a time of 3:29.10.
 
Noriega placed eighth in the 50 yard freestyle event with a time of 29.66. Freeman placed 12th with a time of 31.42. Sophomore Giovonna Rodriguez placed 14th with a time of 32.82. Sinklier placed 20th with a time of 33.75. Junior Jayden Ellison placed 21st with a time of 33.79. Junior Sarah Hallum placed 26th with a time of 35.13.
 
Khoury placed 27th with a time of 35.20. Freshman Abby Rosauer placed 29th with a time of 35.59. Sophomore Gianna Redding placed 30th with a time of 35.69. Sowder placed 35th with a time of 37.05. Freshman Ashlynn Shea placed 37th with a time of 37.25. Junior Kayleigh Turner placed 41st with a time of 38.29. Freshman Melanie Cervantes placed 47th with a time of 41.49. Essence Alves placed 50th with a time of 42.10. 
 
Roe placed fourth in the 100 yard butterfly stroke event with a time of 1:27.21. Ellison did not place in the event, and was disqualified.
 
Noriega placed sixth in the 100 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:05.84. Deering placed 12th with a time of 1:12.15. Rodriguez placed 15th with a time of 1:16.12. Roe placed 17th with a time of 1:17.02. Rosauer placed 24th with a time of 1:12.93.
 
Turner placed 28th with a time of 1:28.06. Redding placed 30th with a time of 1:28.78. Cervantez placed 36th with a time of 1:36.28. Alves placed 37th with a time of 1:37.26. Sinklier did not place in the event.
 
 
Chris Kim placed eighth in the 500 yard freestyle event with a time of 7:57.90. Shea placed 13th with a time of 9:14.32.
 
The relay team of Roe, Freeman, Rodriguez, and Noriega placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:06.25. The team of Ellison, Deering, Turner, and Sinklier placed ninth with a time of 2:17.45. The team of Khoury, Rosauer, Chris Kim, and Hallum placed 11th with a time of 2:23.95. The team of Basher, Cervantes, Lauren Kim, and Redding placed 14th with a time of 2:33.66. 
 
In the 100 yard backstroke event, Lauren Kim placed 10th with a time of 1:35.03. Hallum placed 11th with a time of 1:35.07. Basher placed 12th with a time of 1:38.21.
 
Boland placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:22.65. Sowder placed fourth with a time of 1:29.28. Junior Katherine White placed 12th with a time of 1:44.00. 
 
In the 400 yard freestyle relay event, the team of Rodriguez, Deering, Hallum, and Freeman placed sixth with a time of 4:59.28. The team of Shea, Basher, Sowder, and Ellison placed 10th with a time of 5:45.34.
 
Junction City will be back in action Friday, when it will travel to Salina to compete in an invitational meet at Salina South High School.
